As an affiliate marketer, I’m sure you’ve seen thousands of products to promote and wondered if it was really worth your time. Me too.
There are so many products one has to wonder where it will all end. However, in my searches for just the right products and/or services, I always ask myself, “Would I buy this and, if so, why would I do so?”, which helps me to make my decision on whether or not to spend the time and effort.
Having said that, there is one very unusual, not to mention under-promoted section of a very small market that I found quite intriguing… Auctions. What? You’ve never thought of that? Well, I hadn’t myself until I ran across a very interesting book on Car Auctions. You can see the information by clicking here. I suppose that now I’ll be looking for more auction type things to promote. Who knows for sure just how many types of auctions are just waiting around for someone to do the promotions for them. Sure is worth a shot, don’t you think?
Simply put, affiliate marketing is selling products on a commission basis. You own a business that advertises and sells products for other companies.
Affiliate marketing is the single fastest growth industry on the Internet and is also one of the quickest ways for one to make a very comfortable living.
However, unlike a pastime or hobby, Affiliate Marketing is a real business and should be approached that way. True, you don’t have to spend nearly as much time on your affiliate marketing as you would with a “9 to 5″ job, but it should be approached with the attitude of spending some time each day on your business.
There are five things a successful affiliate marketer must have (and this is not an all-inclusive list) are:
A Website
Your website is the jumping off point of all your marketing efforts. So the first step in any successful affiliate marketing business is building a good, credible and professional looking website.
Your website must be user-friendly website, in order to attract prospects and motivate them to click on the links to the products and/or services you are promoting and make a purchase.
While building a website can be a daunting task, there are any number of tools available if you are inclined to build your own site. One that is particularly useful is Nvu, which is free web page editing software that resides on your computer. If you like designing complicated sites, Adobe Photoshop might be a good choice for you, though expensive. Tutorials for Photoshop are readily available at our WPM Library.
If, on the other hand, you don’t feel comfortable building your own site, there are companies whose business is building websites that you can hire to do it for you. To locate these companies, Google “website construction” or some phrase related to website construction.
Products and/or Services to Promote
You must find products to promote, and you must be able to determine whether there is a demand for those products and if people will actually buy them. This is not as complicated as it sounds as you can find out what people are actually buying by visiting PayPal’s store (a great resource of information on what is selling right now) and Amazon to see what products are selling successfully.
Advertising
It will be necessary for you to become an adept advertiser and be able to tell whether the advertising you are paying for is producing more income for you than the advertising is costing you. This is generally a trial-and-error process, but a necessary part of your business.
Tracking Sales
You need to be able to track your sales and determine profit, as well as, see to it that your suppliers are paid in full and on time. This is quite simple since all affiliate programs handle the order processing for you and provide, or should provide, current statistics on those sales.
Time to Spend on Your Business
Your family and friends need to know that the time spent on your affiliate marketing business is important and that you need to work uninterupted. Let them know in a kindly manner that the time you spend on your business is small compared to the time it will allow you to be with them.
